UK snow warning: Met Office puts millions across 12 regions on alert for five-day blizzard


The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings in 12 regions across the UK for snow and ice, as temperatures could plummet to -10C from today.

Yellow weather warnings for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England are in place from Tuesday January 16, as the weather takes a drastically cold turn over the next five days.

The Met Office states the 12 regions affected are; Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North East England, North West England, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, West Midlands, and Yorkshire & Humber.

Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said: “It is going to be feeling pretty chilly in the north of Scotland. Throughout the week we are going to see more and more snow showers and warnings, towards the end of the week we will probably see an accumulation.”

Warnings in Scotland show an expected build-up of 2cm to 5cm of snow which could worsen throughout the week.

The forecaster added: “We are going to see showers feeding across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and mainly the east coast of England.It should be dry and bright inland.”
