Urgent snow alerts have been issued as Britain braces for 48 hours worth of blizzards. Weather maps show that from Thursday, February 8 at 6am, snow will start sweeping across the UK, and by 9am it will cover a huge area of the north of England and the Midlands, inclduding the East of England, north Wales, Liverpool, Cheshire, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle.
According to current weather maps published by WX Charts – compiled by data from the Metdesk – the snow will stay in this area throughout Thursday, but will start sweeping to the north by the early hours of Friday morning.
Current forecasts predict that at 3am on Friday, February 9, the likes of Newcastle, the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, central belt, Fife and Grampian will be covered by a snow and ice bomb, which will also bring sub zero temperatures to large parts of the country. Later that day, most of Scotland will be covered while England will remain largely dry.
It comes as the Met Office has issued a number of weather warning over the coming days, including an amber warning for snow and ice in north Wales, and another amber warning for snow covering the areas of Sheffield, Bradford and Stoke-on-Trent. Meawhile yellow snow warnings are dotted around the rest of the country, while a yellow alert for rain is in place in London and the south and south west of England.
