UK latest weather maps show new dates when massive 450-mile snow bomb batters Britain

Long-range weather forecast maps show a huge wave of snow set to crash into the UK from the northeast.

The white stuff will cover a 450-mile long stretch from Wick in Scotland to the Lake District, data from WXCharts suggests. In some places, snow is set to reach three cm per hour.

It comes as weather warnings remain in place for snow and ice across large chunks of the country. “We’ve had the worst of it but it’s still not completely clear,” the Met Office’s Dan Stroud said.

Yourweather.co.uk predicts that the north of the UK will see “wilder weather” in the north as “high pressure remains around the south of the country.”

This means the south “will generally stay calmer and drier”.

The agency tentatively predicted snow could come, however, saying the north is likely to be both “windier” and “wetter”, including “a touch of snow for higher ground.”

It added: “As we get later into the week, it looks like the high pressure is going to move north, and possibly east. Because winds spin clockwise around high pressure systems, this could mean some incredibly mild conditions as we get towards the weekend.

“On the boundary between the warm and cooler air, is where we find weather fronts, so we could see some rain as well. However, it seems that as we approach March it will feel very Spring-like.”

The Met Office said there remained a “large degree of uncertainty” around which “weather regimes will be most prevalent”.

There is an “increased likelihood of winds from the north or east,” predicted the weather agency.

It added this “increases the likelihood of spells of colder weather.”

It comes yellow warnings for snow and ice are in force for much of Scotland through this Friday and Saturday, with a chance of power cuts and travel disruption, following several days of heavy snowfall.

Around 10cm (3.9in) of snow was recorded in Kirkwall, Scotland, while 9cm was seen in Bingley, West Yorkshire.

Today:

Some fog during the morning, then many staying dry with sunny spells. Showers at times, mainly in the southwest, with outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow affecting the north and east of Scotland. Feeling cold in Scotland. Milder elsewhere.

Tonight:

Some clear spells overnight where fog may develop. In the southwest, turning windy with further showers. Rain clearing Scotland, with further rain across eastern England. Feeling chilly for many.

Sunday:

Patchy mist and fog to start. Showers continuing in the southwest, some of these heavy and possibly thundery at times. Cloudy for some eastern areas with rain possible. Average temperatures.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Breezy on Monday with sunny spells and showers. Rain at times on Tuesday and Wednesday but some drier interludes too. Temperatures around average, though mild in the south.
