UK hot weather: New maps turn orange as 20C 'mini-heatwave' to hit Britain in days

Weather maps show parts of Britain could see up to 20C within days as April continues to see colder temperatures vie with warmer spells. A 20C surge from France will dominate for a small period in the south east, with highs of around 19C possible, before a crash to lower pressure.

Maps generated by WX Charts using MetDesk data show the mercury in the mid to high teens at 3pm on April 26, with 19C in Greater London, 14C to 16C in the south and 14C to 17C in Wales the Midlands and East Anglia. The same maps show 10C to 13C in the north of England, 13C to 14C in Northern Ireland but a relatively cooler feel in Scotland with 3C to 4C in parts of the Highlands and 6C in Aberdeenshire.

Weather maps for 6am on April 22 show Britain caught between two systems, with temperatures at or a degree or two below the average for the time of year in the south east, south, central and north east.

Wales, Northern Ireland, much of Scotland and south west England look set to see the mercury rise up to 4C higher than the average on the same date, according to WX Charts.

The Met Office’s long range forecast (April 20-29) expects high pressure to build over the weekend and into the new week, with more drier and calmer weather across the UK. But it’ll be shortlived as a crashing low pressure dominates once again.

Cloud cover is uncertain, with some cloudy and clear regions expected, with the chance of frost and fog where the clearer conditions prevail overnight.

The forecast adds that a few light showers or some light rain will be possible at times, though it is more likely to affect peripheral regions of the UK.

It notes: “Temperatures will overall be close to average, probably quite a muted daily cycle in cloudier areas. However, in clearer areas, some chilly nights are likely, but conversely it will feel fairly mild in any sunshine during the daytime.”

WX Charts’ weather maps have also shown parts of Scotland and the Pennines getting a dusting of snow in the coming days. While much of the country looks set for rain on April 23, that could turn to fleeting snow for some areas further north.
