UK cold weather: Latest maps turn dark blue as Britain braces for -13C Arctic freeze

The latest UK weather maps have turned dark blue as Britain braces for icy -13C temperatures in the coming days, with the cold weather looking like it won’t be abating as we head into February. In fact, the latest radar data from WX Charts is showing bitter temperatures, and the potential for snow and fierce winds.

The standout radar data from the forecasters at WX Charts comes on February 10. At 6am on the second Saturday of the month, temperatures in Scotland are projected to be -4C in the north west of England, and -13C in Scotland’s Central Belt around Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh.

Northern England isn’t expected to fare much better with the mercury hovering around -8C in Newcastle. However, as you head southwards the temperature is predicted to climb back up towards zero, but with the exception of the South East the whole country is expected to be in the minus figures.

Snow may compound the freezing temperatures too. According to WX Charts, almost the whole of Scotland is set to be blanketed on Feburary 10.

Meanwhile a lighter dusting is expected to reach as far south as Norfolk and South Wales, although most of the Midlands and further south will remain snow free.

It’s important to note at this stage that the Met Office says snow forecasts are unreliable further out than two days from the day in question.

Meanwhile, WX Charts is predicting a bitter wind chill over the same period. The forecasters’ radar shows most of the UK consumed by a deep blue colour, indicating that the wind will create the feeling of even more freezing temperatures across the country.

Predicting the long range weather forecast for the period between February 4 and February 13, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Changeable conditions at first, with spells of mild, wet and windy weather punctuated by drier, cooler interludes.

“The northwest is likely to see the heaviest and most frequent or most persistent rain, while the southeast will tend to be drier overall. Largely cloudy with the best of any sunshine in the east. There is a chance colder conditions could then become established more widely during the first full week of February, with increased chance of wintry weather, especially northern and central UK, should Atlantic cloud and rain be forced to track across the south of the country.

“Equally, similar conditions to the start of the period could well prevail; confidence is low at this range in the weather type which will become most dominant.”
