Two young brothers die in horror crash on major A-road as police issue statement

Two young brothers, aged six and eight, have died following a car crash near the Lincolnshire coast, police have said.

Officers were called to the A52 at around 3.40pm on Monday, October 2, between Sandilands and Huttoft. The fatal two-car collision occured between two vehicles travelling in opposite directions, a Vauxhall Astra and Audi A4.

The children who died were both sat in the rear seat of the Astra. Also sitting in the car was the driver who was a woman in her 20s, and a third child who was also in the rear seat – they remain in hospital with serious injuries.

Superintendent Lee Pache, Head of Specialist Operations, said: “This is so very sad, and I send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the two boys who have tragically died. I’d like to thank the witnesses who have already come forward and appeal to anyone who saw the collision or vehicle before the crash to get in touch.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either car before the collision to get in touch.

As reported by LincolnshireLive, officers believe the black Vauxhall Astra had travelled south from Sandilands to Huttoft on the A52 just prior to the collision, and the black Audi A4 had travelled north from Huttoft.

The officer added: “If you were travelling between Huttoft and Sandilands yesterday afternoon (October 2) between 3.30 and 3.38 which is when the collision happened, we would like to speak to you, especially if you have a dashcam that has recorded either vehicle. It is early days in our investigation, and we will piece together what has happened. It’s a very difficult investigation and it will take time to work through the facts.”

The boys’ family was being supported by officers, the force said and officers were also in contact with the brothers’ school.
