Two Rochdale grooming gang paedos still waiting to be deported 12 years after being jailed

Two paedophiles from a Rochdale grooming gang are still waiting to be deported 12 years after they were jailed. Adil Khan and Qari Rauf were part of a group of nine men who gave 47 girls alcohol and then took them to have sex with predators.

When they were sentenced in 2012, Khan was given eight years in jail while Rauf was sentenced to just six.

After they were sent to jail, it was decided by the then Home Secretary Theresa May that they would be sent back to Pakistan on the basis that it was “conducive to the public good”.

Following the announcement, the men appealed the decision because they believed it infringed their right to a family life and breached Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Khan later claimed that he should stay in the UK because he wanted to be a role model for his son. Communicating through an interpreter, he said: “As you know, the father figure is very important in every culture in the world, to be a role model for the child, to tell him or her right from wrong.”

Pakistan has to agree to take the two men back rather than let them stay in the UK.

Former detective Maggie Oliver told the Sun: “It’s a disgrace. These men should have been deported years ago – before their citizenship was revoked.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Home Office said: “The crimes committed by the Rochdale child sexual exploitation group who preyed on the young and vulnerable were truly appalling and have no place in our society.

“The Government will continue to pursue all legal options against these perpetrators and protect the victims of these appalling crimes.”
