Two charged in arson at Conservative MP's office

Two people have been charged over a blaze at a Conservative MP’s constituency office.

Emergency services were called to the fire at Mike Freer’s office in North London at 7pm on Christmas Eve.

Paul Harwood, 42, and Zara Kasory, 32, both of no fixed address, faced Willesden Magistrates’ Court yesterday and were remanded in custody.

Harwood and Kasory have also been charged with arson over a fire at a nearby restaurant in Finchley at 11pm on the same night.

Mr Freer, the MP for Finchley and Golders Green, has suggested the blaze may be linked to his pro-Israel stance but the Metropolitan Police said it was not being treated as a hate crime.

It destroyed a shed and damaged the first, second and third floor of the building.

Mr Freer, who wears a stab vest, said emergency services were “excellent” and “on site in minutes”.
