Tube strikes called off as RMT backs down on chaos just hours before walkout

Strikes planned by London Underground workers this week have been called off at the last minute.

The RMT announced an end to Tube chaos on Tuesday, October 3, less than 24 hours before they were due to take place.

The walkout, involving 3,000 members of staff, would have taken place on Wednesday, October 4 and Friday, October 6.

The RMT said they have “managed to save key jobs, prevent detrimental changes to rosters and secure protection of earnings around grading changes”.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “I congratulate all our members who were prepared to take strike action and our negotiations team for securing this victory in our tube dispute.

“Without the unity and industrial power of our members, there is no way we would have been able to make the progress we have.

“We still remain in dispute over outstanding issues around pensions and working agreements and will continue to pursue a negotiated settlement.”

However, there will still be more commuter chaos this week as rail staff continue to strike on Wednesday.

There will be no service on the following lines tomorrow:

  • Avanti West Coast
  • Cross Country
  • East Midlands
  • C2C
  • Chiltern Railways
  • GTR
  • Great Western Railways
  • Heathrow Express
  • LNER
  • London Northwestern
  • Northern
  • Southwestern Railway
  • Southeastern
  • TransPennine
  • West Midlands.
