Now, Trump has all but confirmed movement in the matter, issuing an appeal to backers on Truth Social.
He raged against “illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan District Attorneys office”.
The 76-year-old said that “with no crime being able to be proven, & based on an old & fully debunked fairytale”, he will be detained in three days.
“Protest, take our nation back!” he told supporters, in what will give some flashbacks to the 2021 rally dubbed ‘Stop The Steal which led to the storming of the Capitol.
Reports from NBC News quoted five officials who said potential security plans in and around the Manhattan Criminal Court are being prepped in case Trump travels to New York.
The officials said the interagency conversations and planning are precautionary in nature as no charges against Trump have been filed.
But the agencies involved include the NYPD, New York State Court Officers, the US Secret Service, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Daniels claimed she and Trump had sex, and that she accepted $130,000 (£100,000) from his former lawyer Michael Cohen before the 2016 election in exchange for her silence on the encounter.
In his full remarks on Truth Social, Trump said that America is “now third world & dying”, before adding that “the American dream is dead”.
Reading like a battle cry to supporters, he raged: “The radical left anarchists have stolen our presidential election, and with it, the heart of our our country.
“American patriots are being arrested & held in captivity like animals, while criminals & leftist thugs are allowed to roam the streets, killing & burning with no retribution.
“Millions are flooding through our open borders, many from prisons & mental institutions.
“Crime & inflation are destroying our very way of life.”
