Trump co-defendant fights back tears as she becomes fourth to plead guilty in 2020 probe

Ellis, 38, added that she failed to verify that what the lawyers told her was true, saying she looks back on the experience with “deep remorse.”

She said in court: “What I did not do but should have done, your honor, was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true were in fact true.”

Ellis’ guilty plea comes after fellow attorneys Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro entered into plea deals.

All three have said they are responsible for pushing baseless legal challenges to President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

Ellis was sentenced to five years of probation along with $5,000 in restitution, 100 hours of community service, writing an apology letter to residents of Georgia, and testifying truthfully in trials related to the case.

The early pleas could mean more defendants will admit guilt, with cooperation as their best hope for leniency.
