Tragedy as 'ultra-talented' DJ, 48, found dead in his tent at Glastonbury is named

A man who died whilst at Glastonbury Festival has been named as radio DJ Jason Winder. The “ultra-talented” disc jockey, who entertained expats with his radio show in Thailand, died in his tent, according to a friend.

Avon & Somerset Police are not treating the 48-year-old’s death as suspicious, and an investigation is underway ahead of an inquest.

Jason had at one stage been working on the idyllic island of Phuket in Thailand, presenting radio shows under the name Jason Wilder.

A close friend of Jason, Tim Newton, said that Jason “lived large and packed a lot of life into his 48 short years”.

In an online tribute, Jason was described as a “natural-born engager and entertainer – solo behind the mic, or in the company of close friends and family, or in front of thousands”.

Mr Newton added: “He was certainly the best expat radio talent that ever graced a microphone in Thailand.

“When he was ‘on’ it was hard to turn him off.”

He continued: “Apart from a huge expat following, he had even more close Thai friends.

“He spoke his own version of Thai but it didn’t really matter because his intentions were always clear with his wicked grin and wide smile, always embracing anyone near into his world of spontaneous fun.

“Jason spent most of the post-Covid years working back in the UK, mostly in music and when we last spoke a few months ago, it was about Glastonbury, Glastonbury, Glastonbury, Glastonbury.

“[He] died there doing what he loved – surrounded by music, friends, and you can be sure, a lot of love and laughter.”

Tributes flooded in online for the “ultra-talented, unique, always surprising” broadcaster as one person wrote: “Very sad news. Shocking. Loved his live music. Rest easy.”

Another remembered the DJ as someone who was “full of energy” and always had a “smiling face”, while a third noted that he had “died doing what he loved”.
