Tragedy as boy, 11, riding a bike in Bolton dies after he is hit by bus in collision

The tragedy happened on Vernon Street on the outskirts of the town at 1.40pm today, the Manchester Evening News reports. Police said they were called to ‘reports of a road traffic collision between a cyclist and a bus.’ Tragically the cyclist, an 11 year-old boy, was pronounced at dead at the scene.

“No arrests have been made at this time and the driver of the bus is assisting officers with their enquiries,” Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement issued this evening.

A cordon had been put in place at the junction with Prince Street and Merehall Drive.

The roads were then closed immediately afterwards while emergency services dealt with the aftermath and took interviews.

A bike could be seen laying on its side inside the cordon whilst officers could also be seen looking underneath the bus.

Reports can also be made on the GMP website or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
