Traffic warden baffles motorist by handing every vehicle in car park a ticket

A driver has been left confused after spotting a car park where every single car had been given a parking ticket. The driver shared the photo of the car park, believed to have been taken at High Wycombe Station, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

In the picture, posted on Reddit, every car in the photo appears to have what appears to be a bright yellow parking ticket attached to its windscreen.

The driver remarked that the scene looked more like “the discount aisle in Waitrose” than a car park.

Writing on Reddit, they said: “Parking Warden at High Wycombe Station made his bonus today.”

Many fellow Reddit users were baffled by the scene and took to the comments to express their surprise and their theories about why every car had gotten a ticket.

One wrote that they thought the barrage of parking tickets was a computer error. They said: “I’m going to go with a computer malfunction. I bet they all paid via the app, but the warden’s app hasn’t synced properly, so he’s gone all Parking Pataweyo on them.”

Parking Pataweyo was a character from Harry and Paul’s sketch show who parodies Postman Pat, the character was played by actor Daniel Kaluuya.

Meanwhile, another user commented: “Another possibility is that these aren’t actually parking tickets. I’ve received some pretty creative marketing flyers on various cars over the years that deliberately imitated penalty notices.

“Although they never looked like this. They’d have to have quite a big marketing budget, though, to put them all in those sticky yellow plastic envelope things just for a car-flyer campaign.”

Later, it transpired that the reason all the vehicles were ticketed was because of a council error by Buckinghamshire Council.

It has been reported that Buckinghamshire Council erected a small sign stating that it was closed for “relining”.

The council has said that the tickets should not have been issued and that it would cancel the enforcement notices.

Heleen Jalvingh told the BBC she arrived in the car park and paid with the app and returned several hours later to find her car with one of the stickers. She said app users should have been informed via the app or with clear signage.

In a statement, Councillor Steven Broadbent, the council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “We want to apologise to the people who parked at Railway Place and Duke Street car parks in High Wycombe this week and who received parking tickets during a closure of the car park.

“Whilst we do enforce parking across the county these tickets should not have been issued and we will be reversing the parking tickets to everyone who received them.

“Only a small number of parking bays should have been closed to install the brand new EV charging bays rather than the whole car park and we did not give our customers enough notice of this action.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience and upset caused. Anyone who has been ticketed should take no further action as the notices will be cancelled, and anyone who has already paid the PCN charge will be refunded.”
