Tourists staying at 'platinum' TUI resort 'contract food poisoning with one in hospital'

As many as 25 British tourists staying at a five-star Turkish hotel have been struck with food poisoning, one of which is in hospital. The holidaymakers were staying at the Rixos Sungate – an all-inclusive hotel offered by holiday giant TUI – in the Turkish Riviera –  when they were hit with the mystery illness.

Families forked out up to £4,000 for breaks at the Rixos Sungate hotel in the Mediterranean, which has 13 bars and restaurants including a world food buffet and sushi diner.

One holidaymaker said there were “more than 10 families suffering” and “numbers are growing by the day”, a report by The Mirror detailed.

Kate Dowling tweeted: “My family are in Rixos Sungate – three out of five have food poisoning with one hospitalised.

“Staff are not doing anything to help, denying all knowledge even though other guests have complained.”

She tweeted: “The mother of the children is currently unwell with two children while their father is in hospital with their other child.

“She has asked for help from staff members to no avail? Absolutely horrendous customer service. The father in hospital with his daughter are both without clean clothes or phone charger to remain contact.

“Something needs to be done as the hotel are not accepting any responsibility and offering no support!

“Everybody passing the baton of responsibility!”

On its website TUI classes the Rixos Sungate hotel as a “Platinum” resort, meaning it is consistently scored highly by customers and gives it a five-star rating.

One of its selling points is that it is “tailored just for families” – it comes with a waterpark attached and a kids club.

“They have asked if the hotel could get a bag of clothes and supplies to them however have not been helpful.

“Where is the customer service?” The tweets were posted on April 12.

Two days later, she again posted: “I now have more than 10 families all suffering with these symptoms and these numbers are growing by the day!!
