Tottenham's Daniel Levy has plan 'to usurp Real Madrid' for red-hot 15-goal striker

Tottenham are eyeing up a move for Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez as Daniel Levy and Co look to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s front line. Son Heung-min has filled in brilliantly down the middle since the departure of star striker Harry Kane this summer but Spurs want to add another goal-scorer to their ranks in January.

Gimenez has been in outstanding form this season with 15 goals and three assists from 11 games including a brace against Lazio during Feyenoord’s 3-1 Champions League win on Wednesday night. The Mexican international was an instrumental part of the De Club aan de Maas’s Eredivisie-winning campaign last year, scoring 23 goals in 42 games but is already en route to surpassing that goal tally.

His impressive displays have caught the eyes of many top European clubs including Inter Milan, Lazio, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Tottenham. But his agent Morris Pagniello insists that the latter two are the frontrunners to snap him up.

Pagniello told TuttoMercato: “We have already discussed with Atlético Madrid. After he arrived at Feyenoord, the family approached me and now there are relationships with his father who represents Santi at the moment I am their consultant.

“We talked about him with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him. I’ve been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from €10m to €40m in just under 12 months. Now the teams closest to him are Real Madrid and Tottenham.”

Gimenez has three years remaining on his contract at Feyenoord Stadium and is valued at between £8.7million and £34.9m. But the 22-year-old isn’t the only striker on Tottenham’s radar.

The north Londoners are also reportedly chasing the signature of Stuttgart hotshot Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean danger man has a £15million release clause in his contract despite finding the back of the net a remarkable 14 times in eight Bundesliga games.

Guirassy recently broke the record for the most Bundesliga goals after eight games, surpassing Robert Lewandowski, and is currently out-scoring Kane in the German charts. Brentford forward Ivan Toney is also high up on Tottenham’s shortlist although he will cost far more than both of their other two top targets. The Bees have set a £65m asking price for the Englishman.
