Tottenham target tells his Prem club he 'wants to leave' as January deal complicated

Tottenham target Tosin Adarabioyo has reportedly told Fulham he wants to leave the club. But a move to Spurs in January has been complicated as the giant centre-back is expected to remain in west London until his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Adarabioyo joined Fulham from Manchester City in October 2020 and has gone on to feature 113 times for his current employers. He has missed the majority of this campaign with a groin injury but has returned to action in recent weeks and has started his side’s last three Premier League encounters, with Fulham thrashing Nottingham Forest and West Ham both 5-0 before losing 3-0 at Newcastle.

Tottenham chased the signature of Adarabioyo in the summer, with Monaco also lining up a move for him. But both of those transfers fell through and the player remained at Fulham.

According to The Sun, Fulham have offered Adarabioyo a new deal and are not expecting him to leave in January. But he has a desire to quit the west London outfit when his current deal runs out.

Adarabioyo enjoyed loan spells in the Championship with West Brom and Blackburn during his days as a Citizens player and has illustrated his capabilities at Premier League level since switching to Fulham. The 26-year-old, who was capped by England from under-16s to under-19s levels, has made 63 appearances in the top-flight and helped Fulham secure a 10th-place finish last term as he featured 25 times.

Adarabioyo struck the winning penalty as Fulham defeated Everton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout on Tuesday night. And Cottagers boss Marco Silva described the defender as “special” after the clash, before adding: “He is a key player for us. He is one of the leaders in our dressing room.”

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is said to have a centre-back at the top of his January wishlist as he looks to tighten his team’s backline. Spurs have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight Premier League matches and conceded four goals against Chelsea in November before shipping another three during their draw with Manchester City at the start of this month.

Spurs have dropped to fifth in the table despite storming to the top earlier in the season and have been hampered by a whole host of injury issues during the campaign. The Lilywhites host Everton on Saturday, before travelling to Brighton next Thursday.
