Tottenham face second Bayern Munich gut punch as Tuchel 'asks for' new Harry Kane sidekick

Bayern Munich stung Tottenham by signing Harry Kane in the summer, and they could do it again by making a success out of Steven Bergwin. Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly keen on the winger, who left Spurs for Ajax in 2022 after being given limited opportunities to prove his worth.

Losing captain and all-time top-scorer Kane in an £86.4million deal was naturally a sickener for Tottenham. The 30-year-old has hit the ground running in Germany, leading Europe’s big five divisions with 23 league goals so far this season.

Bayern could yet deliver another stinging blow by proving Spurs should never have got rid of Bergwijn. According to Bild, the German giants have made contact without Ajax to discuss the possibility of a January move.

The Dutchman scored 12 Eredivisie goals last season and is on course to better that total this term, which may already have set alarm bells ringing about Tottenham’s decision to part ways.

A successful link up between Bergwijn and Kane in Bavaria would only rub more salt in the wounds. Bergwijn was used primarily as a substitute before being shipped off to Amsterdam 18 months ago for just over £26m.

The winger evidently felt compelled to go in search of a guaranteed starting role and prove that Spurs had overlooked his potential. Bergwijn has the combination of pace and cutting-edge that Postecoglou has valued since taking over in north London.

Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke is believed to be on his radar as the north Londoners weigh up a £50m swoop. Club Brugge wonderkid Antonio Nusa has also been heavily linked with Spurs in recent weeks.

Manchester City uncovered a lack of attacking potency in their 1-0 FA Cup win last Friday, restricting Tottenham to just one shot. Postecoglou is unsurprisingly feeling the absence of Son Heung-min, who is currently at the Asian Cup with South Korea.
