Tottenham chasing 'the next Declan Rice' and 'best player in Scotland' ahead of January

Tottenham have reportedly earmarked two midfield targets to chase in the January transfer window. Manager Ange Postecoglou should benefit from renewed pulling power in the market, with Spurs flying high at the top of the Premier League in the early stages of his tenure.

The 26 points Tottenham have banked across 10 matches represents the best start of any manager making their first foray into the Premier League.

That, coupled with the instant impact of summer signings such as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, should instil confidence in Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that Postecoglou is worth backing in the January transfer market.

According to Turkish outlet A Spor, one of the players under consideration is Fenerbahce star Ismael Yuksek. The Londoners have reportedly sent scouts to watch the midfielder, whose hard-working and powerful playing style has drawn comparisons with Declan Rice.

Yuksek is already a regular at international level with Turkey, and he has played a significant role in Fenerbahce’s flawless start to the campaign, which has seen them notch 10 wins from 10 Turkish Super Lig matches.

Given that he is not yet a household name, Postecoglou may be hopeful of landing Yuksek on the cheap this winter. By contrast, Celtic are expected to demand a hefty transfer fee for fellow midfielder Matt O’Riley.

O’Riley, born in Hounslow but currently playing for Denmark at youth level, has been labelled ‘the best player in Scotland’ by Scottish media due to his red-hot performances in 2023/24.

The youngster came through Fulham’s academy and spent a year with Milton Keynes Dons before moving north of the border 18 months ago.
