Tory MP urges: ‘Give parents more power over what children are taught'

Parents should have more power to guard against radical gender ideology in schools, a think tank has suggested.

It comes as the Government prepares its agenda for the King’s Speech next month.

Policy Exchange has put forward 14 proposals including a right for parents to see what is being taught to children.

They should also be allowed to take court action to force schools to stop teaching age-inappropriate or politically biased material.

Tory MP Miriam Cates said: “Parents should have an absolute right to know what is being taught to their children – and no child should be socially transitioned behind their parents’ back. That is why I introduced a Private Member’s Bill about this earlier this year.”

She has backed the Daily Express’s Protect Women’s Rights crusade to give them greater safeguards, in what has become a clash with trans extremists.

The Department for Education has yet to publish guidance on supporting transgender pupils, with delays including legal conflicts with the Equality Act and wrangling between ministers and departments.

Other proposals put forward by the think tank include speeding up the planning process and abolishing leasehold on properties.
