Tory MP tears into ECHR in furious PMQs rant: ‘When will we stop bending the knee?’

A furious Tory MP used PMQs to tear into the European Court of Human Rights, and demand to know when Britain will “stop bending the knee” to foreign courts and judges.

Sarah Dines re-opened the sovereignty row after the body of Alkali Attacker Abdul Ezedi’s body was found in the Thames near Tower Bridge yesterday.

The Derbyshire MP said she knew Rishi Sunak would share her “anger” that Britain would have been unable to deport the attacker had he been found alive, because of the European Court of Human Rights.

She fumed: “When will we stop bending the knee to this so-called European Court?”

She added the final attack that the court is a “travesty”.

Rishi Sunak said his thoughts are with the victim and their families but couldn’t comment on a live investigation.

However the PM said it is “not right” for dangerous foreign criminals to be able to stay in this country, pointing to the new Nationality and Borders Act that makes clear anyone convicted of a crime and gets a sentence of 12 months or more will not be granted asylum in the UK.

Mr Sunak said he believes that is the “common sense position” supported by the British public.

He also used the opportunity to blast Labour for voting against that proposition “time and time again”.

More to come…
