Grassroots Tory supporters appear to have joined the chorus attacking Rishi Sunak with Express readers demanding a change at the top of the party to avoid electoral disaster.
A massive 21-point advantage for the Labour Party has been revealed by the most recent Techne UK weekly tracker poll.
The Conservatives have suffered a significant setback as a result of the poll, having lost the majority of the polling-point gains they had previously experienced before Rishi Sunak took over as Liz Truss’ replacement.
The party is on course to win less than 100 seats, which would be the first time in its 345-year history that it did so badly, according to forecasts made by Electoral Calculus.
One reader declared: “Time for a change” and slammed “Tory wets” for failing to turn the situation around.
Another express reader DanSolo wrote: “Nobody wanted him, he was foisted upon us for whatever reason. We voted Boris, Truss in second place, this clown was not on our radar at all.
“He comes across as disingenuous and untrustworthy and I for one cannot wait to see him replaced by a real Conservative, if any still exist in the party.”
Elsewhere, another MichaelTaylor posted: Why are the Tories in this mess? It’s not rocket science.
“It’s because they have turned away from those who supported them in 2019. Ever since the remainer wing of the Conservative party took over through their coup against Liz Truss they have been reaping their rewards.”
Darryl2164 argued: “Sunak cant blame Boris for this mess , its his and his alone starting when he stabbed Boris in the back .
“He has dumped most of the policies that got the tories elected and presided over one debacle after another showing no leadership or direction.
“This unelected man has to go for the sake of the country.”
A poll of 1,632 respondents found that Labour received a commanding 47 percent of the vote, while the Tories came in last with just 26 percent.
Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party would win a commanding 328 seats in a general election if these figures held true, while the Conservative Party would be almost eliminated with only 89 seats.
The poll also found the Liberal Democrats had dropped one point to 10 percent, Reform UK stayed at 6 percent, and the Greens’ position at 5 percent had not altered.
Within two weeks, Labour’s lead has grown significantly by five points as a result of the fall in Conservative support.
This change in support occurs at a time when Boris Johnson’s involvement in the contentious Partgate Report by the Privileges Committee has caused the Conservative Party to split and engage in internal warfare.
A 90-day suspension was approved by Parliament, but because Mr Johnson had already resigned as an MP, it did not apply to him. Additionally, Mr Johnson was not allowed to use his old MP’s pass again.
As the same committee has demanded disciplinary action against seven people who are Boris supporters.
