Thugs dressed as Spiderman, Ali G and nun attack Asda staff and livestream incident

A group of thugs dressed as Spider-Man, Ali G, a nun, and other super heroes caused mayhem in an Asda store in London when they launched a vicious attack on staff which they live-streamed.

Josh McDonald and several others reportedly arrived at the Lavender Hill Asda in a limo before attacking security and retail staff.

During the altercation, live streamed on Instagram, a woman of staff was reportedly knocked unconscious.

Shocking videos of the incident, which occurred in July 2021 at 10pm when the store was still under Coronavirus restrictions, disgusted people when it was broadcast online.

Five members of the group were later charged and pleaded guilty to participating in the violent attack.

McDonald, 33, who had previously been outed by the MailOnline as a black belt martial arts champion, admitted violent disorder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).

Sophie Roberts, 19, also pleaded guilty to ABH assault and public disorder involving threats of violence.

George O’Boyle, 30, admitted violent disorder and ABH while Mark Pettigrew, 39, and Rikki McKenzie, 37 admitted public order offences involving threats of violence.

The attack was organised by a group known as Live Madness Replays who are based in London and Northampton.

Prosecuting, Nick Mather said: “This was not the case of political unrest of which you are familiar. This was entirely self-centred, inconsiderate, and seemingly oblivious to the distress their actions might cause in a store at this time of night.”

CCTV footage of the incident shows the group attacking an Asda employee near the vegetable aisle before the group started fights with other members of staff.

Some concerned members of the public can be seen trying to defend the supermarket staff and fend off the attackers.

After one of the employees tried to defend herself, McDonald can be seen marching over in his Spider-Man outfit and high-kicking and punching her in the head, knocking her out.

In a business impact statement, Asda said the incident had caused them £33,000 in sick pay and £17,500 in statutory sick pay, caused a loss of £5,000 to the store, and left 12 staff members injured.

The group were due to be sentenced on June 2, but sentencing was delayed due to prison van delays.

Sentencing Pettigrew, Judge Mark Bryant-Heron said: “You became involved in a desire for internet notoriety.

“In an event which was live streamed on Instagram with a number of people in fancy dress, you and others entered the Asda on Lavender Hill and frankly caused mayhem, injuring a number of people and causing distress to a great number of people.”

Pettigrew was handed a four-month suspended jail sentence and fined £300 with an additional victim surcharge of £128. Since the incident, Pettigrew has reportedly not reoffended and has been involved in a serious motorcycle accident.
