Three-year-old boy driving golf cart in kills seven-year-old brother in tragic accident

A three-year-old boy driving a golf cart tragically hit and killed his seven-year-old brother in a horrific accident, police have said.

The toddler was driving the buggy in Florida when he came to a right curve before the front of the cart struck his older sibling, who was standing on the front lawn.

The seven-year-old injured boy was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead. His younger brother was not injured in the fatal crash.

An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the tragic collision happened in Fort Myers on Orange River Boulevard.

Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Greg Bueno told the Fox 4 network: “We are still sorting through this, what led up to the tragedy.

“We are wanting to know where the adults were, who was on the property, who was outside, who was inside.

“Whether the seven-year-old was always outside of the cart, or was he initially in the cart with the three-year-old.”

He added the department’s thoughts and prayers are with the family and confirmed an investigation is underway “because a little boy lost his life.”

One neighbor also told Fox 4: “I pray the mother and the father have the strength to get past this.

“Hopefully from this tragedy, people are aware of keeping track of the children and kids because they are innocent.

Florida Governor and presidential election hopeful Ron DeSantis recently signed a new bill amid fears about minors driving golf carts.

The new state law comes into effect on October 1, stating golf cart drivers must be at least 15-years-old with a learner’s permit, or 16-year-old with a driver’s license

Any person driving the vehicle aged 18 or over will require a valid government-issued ID.

Those found to have broken the new state law could be hit with a non-criminal traffic violation.

Previously, people as young as 14-year-olds were allowed to drive golf carts, according to Florida law.
