Thomas Newsome, 36, serving member of UK armed forces charged under Official Secrets Act


Newsome is set to appear at court, Scotland Yard has said. 

He was initially arrested and detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE). A warrant of further detention was obtained from Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 April. This allowed police to detain him until today.

He was then charged late on Friday 21 April with offenses contrary to section 2 and section 8 of the Official Secrets Act, 1989.

He has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 22 April.
