'They owe all their fame to the Firm!' PR expert slams Sussexes 'celebrity status'

A PR expert has claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s celebrity status stems from their revelations about The Firm’s inner workings.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gained a lot of attention with their controversial Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” where they unveiled several surprising revelations about their experiences within the Royal Family.

Harry discussed the deterioration of his relationship with his brother, Prince William, sharing details of an intense confrontation during a meeting at Sandringham about his move to the US.

Meghan also discussed her challenges with mental health while living in the UK following her marriage to Harry.

Public relations expert Ryan McCormick said Meghan and Harry should have “capitalised” off the success of their Netflix series.

He told Express.co.uk: “These two individuals are most well known for spilling the secrets of the Royal Family (to which they owe all their fame and wealth). If they had capitalised on the momentum during peak interest with the launch of their Spotify podcast (which they blundered), a fashion line, some type of educational membership course, or something similar; Harry and Meghan could have attained a higher level of prestige.”

His comments come amid rumours Harry and Meghan are actually stepping further away from the Royal Family.

The couple have reportedly spent £3million ($3.8million) to secure the rights to produce a new film for Netflix.

The movie, based on the bestselling novel Meet Me at the Lake, is thought to be getting produced by the couple as part of their £87.7million ($112million) deal with the streaming service. The book has proven to be a hit with readers, selling 37,000 copies in its first week alone.

The story, written by author Carley Fortune, focuses on a couple who fall in love in their 30s and deals with themes of childhood trauma and post-natal depression.

For Meghan and Harry fans, one of the most standout plot points in Meet Me at the Lake is the death of a parent in a car crash.

Harry was 12-years-old when his mother Princess Diana died in the same circumstances at the age of 36 in 1997. The film is said to be the next stage of the couple’s deal with Netflix.

There had been speculation that the exclusive partnership was under threat, but a spokesman for the streaming service set the record straight.
