‘There was rat poo on the sun loungers and vomit in the pool – our holiday was ruined’

A family has said their holiday was ruined after they found rat poo on the sun loungers and saw vomit in the pool.

Danielle Faulkner, 44, and her two daughters, Amelie, 15, and Isobel, 17, have been struck down by sickness whilst staying at a five star resort in Greece.

They have joined dozens of fellow tourists in demanding a probe into their hotel after they made the shocking sightings.

Ms Faulkner spent around £3,000 on the trip, the first in five years together, as part of a glittering summer holiday.

Their dream turned into a nightmare when Ms Faulkner and Amelie both fell ill on the second day of the trip.

The pair both experienced sickness and diarrhoea soon after arriving at the Greek resort. Soon after, Isobel also began experiencing symptoms.

Ms Faulkner, who lives with the incurable condition lupus and has a compromised immune system, said she needed help from one of her daughters after losing consciousness.

Speaking about the experience, she told MailOnline: “The last thing you expect when you book a five-star luxury holiday is for it to be wiped out by illness. I wish we’d never have booked the holiday.

“We know nothing can turn the clock back and make up for what’s happened, but the least we feel we deserve is answers as to why the holiday turned into a nightmare.”

Now, Ms Faulkner and her family have joined 35 fellow holidaymakers in starting a battle with the resort.

In reply, the hotel told the Mail that the tourists were to blame for the spread of the virus by not isolating in their rooms.

Ms Faulkner added: “The holiday quickly went from what we hoped would be a dream trip to a disaster. What’s even more concerning is that we weren’t alone.

“We saw other holidaymakers being sick in front of the other guests and others were complaining about hygiene standards.”

Ms Faulkner said her daughter Amelie said she’d never been so ill in her life.

Ms Faulkner also claimed that waiting staff began wearing masks and gloves which she thought was a COVID-19 measure.

She also alleged that tables weren’t cleaned between guests dining and that plates of food were left outside the rooms of guests alongside bags of rubbish.

She added that her daughters deserved the holiday after working incredibly hard at school and achieving impressive exam results.

A specialist international injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell Jatinder Paul has been instructed by Ms Faulkner and other families to investigate.

She said: “We continue to be contacted by a growing number of people from across the UK who fell ill during holidays to this resort this summer.

“What’s of particular concern is that multiple families are reporting suffering the same serious symptoms in a short timeframe.

“We’re now investigating those concerns to provide them with the answers they deserve.”
