The world's giant £41bn underground tunnel that takes passengers just two minutes to pass

A giant underground tunnel in Las Vegas worth £41 billion takes passengers a mere two minutes to pass through. The Vegas Loop at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) offers an exciting, fast, and convenient mode of transportation for attendees to traverse the 200-acre campus, completing the journey in just under two minutes.

The typical walk between the West Hall to the existing North/Central Hall can take up to 25 minutes but taking a trip on the huge loop will cover it in just 120 seconds.

The system is designed by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company and aims to transport more than 4,400 convention attendees per hour across the campus.

In 2019, The Boring Construction Company constructed two one-way tunnels spanning 0.8 miles each, along with three passenger stations.

These tunnels and stations link the current convention center campus to the 1.4 million square foot West Hall expansion.

Passengers can load into vehicles capable of holding three people, with future vehicles capable of holding up to 12 people.

Musk’s tunnel system is his futuristic solution to reduce road traffic by moving some of it underground.

With approval from the Clark County Commissioners, The Boring Company can now add 25 more miles of tunnels, making a total of 65 miles with 18 new stations.

Initially, the Vegas Loop aimed for 51 stations and 29 miles of tunnels.

Steve Hill, LVCVA president and CEO had said: “We are excited to have partnered with Elon’s company to bring this transportation ‘first’ to our valued convention customers.

“The expanded Loop system, when developed, will be a game-changer and a new ‘must experience’ attraction for our visitors.’

Steve Davis, president of The Boring Company said at the time of inaugural: “We’re grateful to LVCVA and all local stakeholders for providing us the opportunity to construct our first commercial project in one of the world’s most dynamic destinations.

“We are proud to have developed and delivered an exciting transportation solution to the Las Vegas Convention Center.”
