The UK seaside village with a beautiful beach but it 'smells of greasy food'

A British seaside village with a beautiful beach has been slammed by visitors for smelling of greasy food and being full of noisy arcades.

Leysdown-on-Sea in Kent is a small village on the east coast of the Isle of Sheppey.

With a beach and a number of holiday villages, it is a popular spot for staycationers. But not all enjoy their trip.

One reviewer said on Tripadvisor: “The beach itself was nice but walking down from the caravan felt grim. The smell of greasy food, noise of the arcades felt a bit overwhelming in such a small area.

“If you want to eat there it seemed greasy food and sweets were the only option. We gave up on eating locally very quickly.

“Pretty depressing to visit, very neglected. You can see that this may have previously been lovely but is now run down which is sad, it deserves investment.”

Another agreed, saying: “Arcades a rip-off. Greasy cafes. Loads of violence especially in the pubs. Dirty area not because of effort trying to keep clean it’s because plenty of litter louts there”

Also on the Isle of Sheppey are Elmley Nature Reserve, the Swale Nature Reserve, RSPB Capel Fleet.

There are also a number of other villages and towns on the island including Eastchurch. Minster-on-Sea, Sheerness and Queensborough.

But not all thought the worst of Leysdown, one Tripadvisor reviewer said it was “beautiful” and another said it was like “stepping back in time”.

Leysdown-on-Sea can be accessed by car via the A249 and the Kingsferry Bridge.
