The UK parliament that has changed its PM

Clark Dearson, 11, received a formal handover from Harry Acheampong, 12, at a charity football match for youngsters.

Harry is no longer eligible for the role because he has started secondary school.

The boys met near the House of Lords in London’s Victoria Park Gardens South, where the charity Football for Peace was highlighting the need to provide clean water to the poorest people on Earth.

Primary age children from Christian, Muslim and Jewish faith schools took part to underline the need for co-operation between different religions.

Clark said: “It was lovely to participate in this event and to take over from Harry, who has done an excellent job and done some amazing things.

“I really hope I can inspire as many children as he has to take an interest in all the things that are going on in the world.”

The Children’s Parliament, backed by the Daily Express, was co-founded for primary school pupils by the late Sir David Amess, who was murdered in 2021 after serving as a Tory MP for almost 40 years.

Its mission is to “inspire and empower children to be informed, open-minded, responsible, and active citizens who will shape society and drive impact in the future”.
