Residents living in a pretty seaside town on the Cornish coast are experiencing an unwelcome wave of tourists getting stuck in the sea after ignoring warning signs.
St Ives has become a hotspot for reckless tourists driving their cars into the sea in recent years.
These damp motoring adventures are not deliberate, but are caused by people driving their cars onto the soft sand and getting stuck.
The latest victim of the sea was a tourist in the seaside town of St Ives who got their Land Rover Discovery stuck on Porthmeor Beach.
The vehicle, worth around £40,000, is designed to be capable both on and off-road.
However, the SUV became immovable when the tyres got stuck in the sand and the owner decided to abandon it.
Posting an image of the stricken car on Instagram, one witness said: “Here we are, look it’s that silly season again.”
Another witness told CornwallLive the car became stuck when it tried to tow equipment from a cancelled outdoor cinema event.
The incident comes just days after another group got their electric car stuck on a beach in Port Isaac Harbour.
The car, believed to be a hybrid Toyota Prius, was seen with the waves lapping at its tyres as the tide moved in.
Signs at the entrance warn motorists not to use the car park.
Facebook users were quick to criticise the driver for their mistake with others concerned for the safety of both the car and the driver.
