The Repair Shop star reacts to friend King Charles's cancer news as royal makes appearance

Jay Blades “wished his friend” King Charles a speedy recovery in a heartful post on social media.

The Repair Shop star praised the monarch and also urged the Royal Family to remain unified during this difficult period in a sweet message today.

The King is undergoing treatment for a condition but aides have refused to disclose at what hospital he is receiving out-patient care. Buckingham Palace announced the news yesterday evening, with Prince Harry rushing back to the UK today to support his dad.

Jay shared a sweet photo alongside Charles when the restorer and the team visited Dumfries House in Scotland for a one-off episode to mark the BBC’s centenary filmed when Charles was still the Prince of Wales and initially aired back in October.

He tweeted: “Good afternoon all. Please join me in Wishing my Friend His Majesty The King, a speedy recovery. At this time it’s all about family, support & community.”

Social media users reacted to the post as one person penned: “Love this photo – and the warm friendship you share with King Charles, particularly your shared passion for sustainability and restoration #GodSaveTheKing.”

“Good afternoon Jay wishing the King a very speedy recovery,” a second person commented, while a third added: “That’s a lovely photo Jay.”

His post comes after King Charles made an appearance when he was pictured for the first time since news broke of his cancer diagnosis. The monarch has been seen leaving Clarence House in a car with Queen Camilla, with both smiling and waving to crowds.

The pair then headed to a waiting helicopter at Buckingham Palace where they flew to Sandringham. They landed at the Norfolk property shortly before 5pm.

Prince Harry also left Clarence House moments before but is reportedly not due to see his brother Prince William during his visit to the UK.

The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades previously praised his “friend” King Charles, telling a BBC interviewer that “he’s just a normal geezer”.

Speaking about their relationship on Capital FM he commented: “Yeah he’s just a normal geezer, he’s alright, he’s my rich friend, he runs the country!”

In the hour-long special The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit, King Charles needed help with an 18th-century bracket clock and a piece made for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee by British ceramics maker Wemyss Ware.

David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed airs tonight on BBC Two at 6.30pm
