The real reason why Meghan Markle was spotted without her engagement ring

Meghan Markle has been pictured without her glittering engagement ring from Prince Harry – fuelling further speculation the couple’s marriage may be on the rocks.

Earlier this week, the Duchess of Sussex was seen enjoying lunch with two friends, but her three-stone ring was noticeably replaced with a gold band on her engagement finger.

Meghan and Harry are believed to be spending some time apart as they work on different projects.

The prince recently flew to Japan to speak at a summit organized by the International Sports Promotion Society and also played in a polo match in Singapore to raise money for the Sentebale charity, which he co-founded in 2006.

The Duke of Sussex is also believed to be focusing on the release of Heart of Invictus on Netflix on August 30 – a documentary series he has executively produced.

Meanwhile, Meghan has been enjoying time with her friends, and last week was seen at a Taylor Swift concert in Los Angeles with pal Lucy Fraser.

The recent absence of her glittering engagement ring has sparked speculation about her marriage to Harry and a source has told Page Six her sparkler is simply “being fixed.”

She was given the pricey engagement jewelry when her future husband proposed to her in November 2017.

The custom design features a diamond from Botswana – a country they visited together in the early days of their romance – and two smaller stones from his late mother Princess Diana’s collection.

Harry told the BBC in a post-engagement interview: “The ring is yellow gold, because that’s [her] favorite, and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana, and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this — on this crazy journey together.”

Meghan Markle described the rock as “incredible,” explaining: “Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.”

In the years following her engagement to Harry, the Duchess of Sussex has had the ring altered.

Eagle-eyed fans of the couple have noticed after the birth of their first child Archie, the sparkler’s original yellow gold band was swapped with a thinner pavé setting.

Meghan and Harry have recently been plagued by rumors their marriage may be in trouble – but that speculation has quickly been shut down by those close to the couple.

An insider squashed whispers of a possible breakup, telling Page Six: “It’s not true. It’s literally made up.”

Earlier this month, Meghan and Harry delighted their fans with the beaming couple appearing in a new Archewell Foundation video together.

It saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to the spotlight together for the first time in nearly three months
