The Queen's reluctance to acknowledge Princess Diana's death captured in The Crown trailer

The explosive trailer for the sixth and final season of the Crown has been released – and captures the Queen’s reluctance to acknowledge the death of Princess Diana.

The final season of the Netflix drama will chronicle the lives of the Royal Family from 1997 to 2005, with the tragic death of Diana taking centre stage.

The trailer features the late Princess extensively, with her ghost appearing to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles.

It opens with a voiceover from Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, saying: “I don’t really understand how I ended up here. Dashing around and losing sight of myself in the process. I think that’s been the story of my whole life.”

The Queen, played by Imelda Staunton, can be seen reading newspapers with “front pages dominated by Diana” while discussing public interest in the princess with a royal advisor.

The monarch says: “All one wants is for that girl to find peace.”

Princess Diana died in a car crash with Dodi Fayed while touring Paris in August 1997. The series will follow the devastating impact of her death.

Queen Elizabeth congratulates the princess’ ghost for “finally (succeeding) in turning this house upside down.”

To which Diana replies: “It was never my intention.”

The Queen’s controversial silence following the death of the Princess of Wales will also feature in the series, with Charles asking her “to be mother to the nation”.

The then-Prince, played by Dominic West, also notes in the trailer that, while alive, Diana “gave the people what they needed” and that they “adored her for it”.

The first part, airing on November 16, will feature four episodes and cover the final months of Diana’s life and the impact of her death.

The second, airing on December 14, will feature six episodes and will focus on the late Queen’s life as she approaches her Golden Jubilee, the marriage of Charles and Camilla, as well as the blossoming romance of William and Kate.
