The pretty seaside town just as beautiful in the winter and without the crowds

This gorgeous seaside village is famous for its breathtaking beauty, quaint cobbled streets and is perfect for cosying up next to an open pub fire this festive season.

And a study by credit card company Aqua revealed that the North Yorkshire village well and truly remains a UK hidden gem – with just 40 Google searches for it each month.

Tourists have been sharing their delight at discovering Robin Hood’s Bay on travel review website Tripadvisor.

Touted as a “beautiful jewel” on the East Coast, Robin Hood’s Bay was crowned the sixth best place in the UK to enjoy a plate of fish and chips.

Dale Price, who owns a quaint and lively café in the stunning Yorkshire seaside village, near Whitby, told Yorkshire Live: “It’s absolutely great here, don’t tell the Southerners!

“It’s stunning up here. We are very much a holiday destination. Robin’s Hood Bay is a beautiful jewel on the East Coast – the Jurassic coast!

“It’s stunning, beautiful – as good as Devon or Cornwall, or similar!”

The study also placed Blackpool at the top of a list of popular but affordable winter staycations, with Bournemouth coming in at second place and Scarborough coming in at third.

Sharvan Selvam, commercial director at Aqua said: “Staycations can be a great way to get some rest and relaxation.

“From skipping the airport chaos to cutting down travel times, holidaying close to home offers plenty of benefits, and might also save you money on things like flight costs and airport parking.

“There are simple steps holiday-makers can take to keep costs down when they’re on their staycation too.

“While it’s nice to treat yourself to a few meals out when on holiday, choosing self-catered accommodation, and bringing some of your own food, could save you a lot of money.”
