The 'posh' little village with a pretty riverside pub where everyone wants to live

The posh village of Cound is home to just 500 people and boasts a gorgeous riverside pub, so it’s no wonder people are desperate to move there.

Despite not having a village shop or schools, it’s a popular place to live because of its beautiful homes and stunning countryside, reports Birmingham Live.

Cound is a tiny village on the west bank of the River Severn in Shropshire, only seven miles from Shrewsbury and an hour from Birmingham city centre.

The village was once an industrial port but is now a peaceful spot for people working in nearby towns who want a quiet life.

The Telegraph even named Cound as one of the UK’s most desirable places to live because of its posh appeal, which includes 68 listed buildings, a close community, and a popular tennis and cricket club.

But finding a home in this village isn’t easy. Right now, there are only three houses for sale on Rightmove, and the cheapest, a lovely three-bed bungalow, costs £375,000.

However, if you’re thinking about moving to Cound, now might be a good time. House prices in the village were 33 percent lower last year than the year before, with an average price of £508,333.

Cound is a beautiful place with stunning views that draw walkers all year round. From January to March, pretty snowdrops dot the landscape along the Coundmoor Brook.

The heart of the community is the Grade I-listed Cound Hall. It holds regular events, including a spring sizzler breakfast coming up on Sunday, March 24 and a fun gin tasting evening on March 8.

You’ll also find St Peter’s church, a tennis and cricket club, and a quaint bookshop.

One resident Andrew Perks said: “Our children love it as we can open the door of the house into fields. There’s lots of pathways and bridleways and it’s fantastic for walking dogs.”

Schools are close by, with both primary and secondary schools less than ten miles away. There is a welcoming pub and restaurant, the Riverside Inn, on the edge of the village.

Housed in a grade II-listed building, the Inn offers fantastic views of the River Severn and serves up pub food like mixed grill, pies, burgers, and fish and chips. They also serve roast dinners every Sunday.

One happy customer shared on Google: “Discovered The Riverside Inn yesterday and was so impressed – and I am a bit fussy, I admit.

“It’s a gorgeous pub, spacious, classy and inviting, in fact I would say immaculate. Just turned up and we were welcomed like old friends by the manager.”
