The National Trust site so beautiful it's named one of the best in the world

A Cornish National Trust site that became internationally recognised thanks to British television has been named one of the world’s most beautiful.

St Agnes Head is home to a beach that sits on a stunning slice of the Cornwall coastline, sheltered by a cove but accessible via a coastal path.

The site is instantly recognisable, with its chapel poking out from blankets of heather and gorse serving as the backdrop for the BBC’s hit series Poldark.

The area stands apart from Aidan Turner’s celebrity, however, as it hosts nearly a century’s worth of Cornish industrial history captured in sites like the disused 19th-century mine Wheal Coates.

St Agnes’ beauty and storied past has captured hears in the United Nations, where officials have designated it a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has wowed thousands of visitors.

TripAdvisor reviewers are full of praise for the area, with the former tin mine and Chapel Porth Beach being top highlights.

The attractions have received 324 and 264 reviews each, netting them five and four-and-a-half star ratings.

User Steve_Lincs1 praised the “amazing scenery” of Wheal Coates, stating people “cannot fail but to take an epic photograph at this location”.

And views.of.kernow paid their respect to the “incredible location”, stating it is perfect for hikers and explorers.

They said: “There really aren’t enough superlatives to describe the view.

“The Cornish coastline stretches into the distance in both directions and the romantic image of the old engine house makes you feel like you’re walking through a Poldark novel.”

Reviewers were similarly full of praise for Chapel Porth Beach, which one user, lou1232013, called “idyllic”.

They said: “This is one of our favourite places to walk and escape the crowds, even with the tide in over the large expanse of sand you can walk over the cliffs and explore the old mines.”

Tracy H added: “Spectacular scenery. Nice cuppa and food to be had in the National Trust cafe there too which was a bonus.”

Visitors have also spoken highly of Chapel Porth Beach Café, famous for its hedgehog ice creams made from cones, clotted cream and hazelnuts.
