The moment tourists fend off charging brown bear in Alaska

Tourists in America had to fend off a brown bear as it prepared to charge.

The brave group yelled and stuck close together as the bear prowled in Alaska. The animal started to rush towards the group as they were on a Scenic Bear Viewing tour.

The moment was caught on camera and shared by the tour guides. The keen bear spotters were at Chinitna Bay on Lake Clark’s Cook Inlet when the drama unfolded.

They were watching a pair of brown bears that walked close by but didn not appear to be aggressive. Suddenly however, one of the bears began to charge.

It is then the group of tourists start yelling and and growling. When the bear appears to be running away, the guide then steps forward to get the animal to run off.

In an Instagram post, Scenic Bear Viewing said: “Never run from a charging bear, even though your instinct is to run. This is a bluff charge. They are just trying to get you to run. They have a natural chase instinct.

“Don’t get close to bears in the wild. Make sure you have an experienced guide with you! We do not get closer than 50 yards. These bears came to us.

“We have been Bear guiding for over 10 years. This happened a few days ago, and it’s not the first time. We are trained exactly for this situation. We are a professional bear guide operation. Although we will try to avoid this at all costs.”

The company says humans have been visiting bears in the area for over three decades. The animals are not hunted or harmed by the tourists.

As a result, it says there have been no actual bear attacks during this time.
