The marriage of actress Sophia Winkleman and Lord Frederik Windsor has been a subject of curiosity for royal watchers and entertainment enthusiasts alike.
The relationship bridges the worlds of entertainment and monarchy – Sophia Winkleman is known in royal circles for her marriage to Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of late Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent.
In the TV show, ‘Peep Show’, Winkleman portayed the character of Big Suze, often the love interest of Jez, one of the main characters.
In addition to her television work, Winkleman has made notable appearances in big films such as “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”.
Speaking in Tatler Magazine’s February 2024 issue, the 43-year-old said she had a close relationship with the Royal Family.
She said: “King Charles is a very dear friend. I spend a bit of time with him. You see how he works all day long, has a quick supper and then disappears until about 4am to write letters. He cares about so many things and he comes up with brilliant solutions.”
The revealing interview also showed how the family rallied behind her after a horror crash in 2017. She was a back-seat passenger in a chauffeur-driven car when another vehicle struck it after swerving to avoid a deer.
The royal family rallied around her, with Prince William asking an air ambulance colleague to “take good care” of her. The Prince supports the good work of the charity and has recently been seen attending a gala in London for the Air Ambulance charity.
Duchess Sophie visited her in hospital and the then Prince Charles supplied her family with two meals a day cooked by his Clarence House chef.
Sophie Winkleman married Lord Frederick Windsor at a grand ceremony at Hampton Court Palace back in 2009.
She added: “My mother-in-law, Princess Michael of Kent, took full personal charge of it all and did it brilliantly, including what dress I was wearing.”
Strictly Come Dancing and Traitors host Claudia Winkleman is the half-sister of Sophie, and while they did not grow up together, they now share a close relationship, and Claudia was one of Sophie’s bridesmaids at her 2009 royal wedding.
Her husband is currently the 53rd in line to the British throne, and he and Sophie have been spotted at several royal events over the years, including Trooping the Colour and the wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston.
