The beautiful seaside town with a pub beer garden on every list of the UK’s best

A UK seaside town often described as “better than Miami” is home to one of the most beautiful beer gardens in the country.

Whitstable, about an hour-and-a-half away from London, boasts a shingle beach which has gathered dozens of five-star reviews online as well as a number of well-loved pubs.

Among them is a famous pub overlooking the sea which has landed on list after list showcasing Britain’s best pubs.

The Old Neptune is described online as “a perfect pub – with a perfect landlord and staff”.

After more than 100 years in operation, the pub has developed a reputation for its delicious locally sourced fish and its enviable views out to sea.

One reviewer on TripAdvisor said: “We watched the sunset and it felt like we were away abroad!”

The pub has been so well-regarded it was placed in the UK’s top 25 beer gardens, compiled by travel company Big 7 Travel.

But The Old Neptune isn’t the only popular amenity to enjoy in Whitstable. The town is home to Wheelers Oyster Bar – a classy restaurant that offers a delicious seafood tasting menu, and countless other brilliant venues.

Whitstable has seen huge spikes in its house prices over the past 10 years, with an average house price over the last year of £513,033, according to Rightmove.

It’s no surprise as according to local estate agents, the town attracts second homeowners and welathy clientele.

Travel experts at Parkdean Resorts say the town – sometimes described as “better than Miami” – makes for one of the best spots for a staycation.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “Boasting sunny blues, a shingle beach and up to £6,152 in savings, Whitstable is a great alternative to Florida’s sandy holiday hotspot, Miami Beach.”

The town, living up to its comparison with Miami, has attracted celebrities from all around, including Comedian Josh Widdicombe who said the town gets “full marks” after a recent family holiday there.

Breaking Bad star, Aaron Paul, who plays the character Jesse Pinkman, also holidayed in Whitstable.
