The beautiful seaside town aiming to be the best UK resort for anyone with a dog

A popular resort is aiming to become the number-one spot for four-legged friends by making the area more dog-friendly.

Girvan on the Ayrshire coast near Glasgow is a popular destination for families to visit, but the seaside resort wants to up its game when it comes to dogs.

The area is already home to numerous walking routes and paths as well as coastal trails, making it an ideal spot.

Now local shops and businesses are taking part in a new scheme to encourage owners and their four-legged friends to the town.

Over 20 shops, pubs and cafes have signed up the Go Girvan dog-friendly sticker scheme which identifies businesses open to pups inside, Glasgow Live reports.

One cafe has gone one step further and even introduced a dog menu while a bike business has added dog trailers to the range.

To encourage owners to bring their dogs, the town is asking people to share pictures on social media using #DogFriendlyGirvan with the best pic winning a doggy hamper from the local pet shop.

Media and marketing officer from Go Girvan Susanne Arbuckle hopes dog owners are”inspired to visit” when they see the scheme
