The beautiful little city full of Londoners who can't believe how much cheaper it is

There’s a city just over two hours from the capital that Londoners are flocking to because of the comparaitively ‘cheap’ property prices and quieter pace of life.

Norwich, in East Anglia, is only a relatively short drive from London and sits at the heart of the rural county of Norfolk, which famously has no motorways.

The average house price in the area, according to Rightmove, is around £290K, less than half the average property price in London, which sits at around £700,000.

One area in particular in Norwich has attracted the attention of those wanting to leave the Big Smoke behind. The Golden Triangle district of is a wedge-shaped well-to-do area south west of the city filled with grand Victorian homes.

It’s chilled-out bohemian vibe has led to the area being dubbed Norwich’s Notting Hill, and Londoners wanting a live away from the hustle and bustle have certainly taken notice.

According to the Telegraph, it’s “hippier than you’d imagine” and Norwich has “shrugged off it’s Alan Partridge reputation”.

Comedian Steve Coogan’s bumbling Alan Partridge character was portrayed as living near the city in a motorway services hotel while working on the fictional Radio Norwich.

Ruth Bloomfield writes in the Telegraph that the Golden Triangle’s St Giles Street “with its boutiques, vintage shops, delis and restaurants, is a more than serviceable match for Battersea’s Northcote Road or Islington’s Upper Street”.

James Colbeck-Rowe, fromt the estate agency Winkworth, said increasing amounts of Londoners were migrating to his home city in recent years.

He said: “Norwich is a city rich in culture and heritage, the city is also famous for its lively marketplace, the largest undercover market in Europe.”

Running through the centre of the Golden Triangle is Unthank Road, named after the Unthank family who owned a large estate there in the 1800s.

There are three large parks that service the Triangle, which according to the Eastern Daily Press hosts the most expensive streets in Norwich.
