The beautiful beach named the 'best in the world' just three hours from UK

The world’s most beautiful beaches are located all over the planet – from Australia to Aruba. But the very best is just three hours from UK shores, according to a new rundown from a top travel review website.

Tripadvisor has crowned Portugal’s Praia da Falésia as The Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best. The title celebrates “the highest level of excellence in travel” and is awarded to places which receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.

Talking about the winning beach it said: “Praia da Falésia is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands, and sparkling blue waters.

“Sunbathe on the huge shore, go swimming or body surfing in the waves, or stroll along the scenic footpath on top of the cliffs and check out the incredible views.

“The beach has been awarded Blue Flag recognition for its cleanliness, plus there are restrooms, a snack bar, and it’s easy to get to via public transportation.”

It’s not the first time a beach in Portugal’s south has won global acclaim with The Huffington Post declaring the nearby shoreline of Ponta da Piedade, near Lagos as the prettiest on the planet a decade ago.

And Tripadvisor users have weighed in with their own thoughts on the stretch of coastline in their thousands. It has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 and almost 6,000 reviews with one user saying there are “no words” to describe how incredible it is.

One said: “Just amazing when seen for the first time, walk the beach or hike above it is definitely worth a trip the Praia da Falesia.

“Just the combination of ocean and very high hills is wonderful.”

Another called the beach a “must see”. They said: “Very impressive, lots of steps down and back up but it is worth the effort.

“Once at the bottom the cliffs are a marvel of mother nature, and the walk of the beach at low tide is a great exercise.”

“Absolutely beautiful beach,” said another.

They added: “We visited in July and it was never too busy, we loved walking along the water’s edge, so peaceful and the cliffs behind the beach are amazing.”
