Texas House votes to expel Republican accused of sexual misconduct with 19-year-old aide


The Texas House has unanimously voted to expel Republican Bryan Slaton – just a day after submitted his resignation after being accused of sexual misconduct with 19-year-old aide.

The vote result of 147-0 comes with the Royse City Republican accused of having a sexual relationship with the member of his staff.

Support from two-thirds of the House was required for his expulsion.

Following the vote, Slaton’s nameplate was removed from his desk and from the vote tally board at the front of the House chamber.

He has now become the first member of the Texas Legislature to be cast out of office in nearly 100 years.

On Saturday, the House General Investigative Committee released a 16-page report that determined had sexual intercourse with the young staffer in his Austin apartment on March 31 or April 1.

Ahead of today’s vote, members of the committee briefly outlined the “unpleasant” and “graphic” allegations that were being made against Slaton.

Rep. Andrew Murr, a Junction Republican who leads the investigative committee, told the House: “This Texas House is not going to hear from multiple complainants about serious and alarming facts and then turn the other cheek or simply slap a member on the wrist.”
