Waves caused by the Qiantang River tidal in Yanguan Township of Haining City, east China’s Zhejiang Province, sent people falling like skittles as tourists attempted to dive out of the way.

The river is known for its strong tidal bores, having knocked people over in the past and even causing a risk to life for those who get caught in its path.

But some realised they had ventured a little too close to the shore as they were sent flying when the water struck them.

Footage has showed similar incidents happening in the past, with the river having strong tides.

Sharing the clip online, People’s Daily in China wrote: “Some tourists were knocked down by the rushing waves while admiring the Qiantang River tide bore in E China’s Zhejiang. Nature is beautiful, but it can also be dangerous. Enjoy but stay safe!”

One person warned people the river was “dangerous” and to “stay out” of it.

As the camera pans along the river edge, people are seen running towards the bank to avoid the fast moving water.

But some were unable to run away in time, with numerous people caught in the strong tide.

Bystanders were seen helping as people ran towards the bank that keeps the water at bay.

Several children were seen falling over, with the water carrying them along the footpath that soon became part of the river.
