Teacher who slept with pupil, 15, 'moved on' from prison release job for distracting staff

A teacher who was jailed for having sex with a pupil reportedly had to be moved from her prison release job at a building site after she distracted workers.

Kandice Barber was taking part in a work scheme aimed at easing inmates back into the community during temporary prison release.

Barber was jailed for six years and two months in 2021 after being convicted of grooming a 15-year-old boy and having sex with him in a field.

The now-former teacher bombarded the pupil with messages, including one in which she asked: “Do you like boobs or bum?”

She also sent him a photograph of herself on a bed surrounded by sex toys.

Barber was caught after a topless picture she had sent her victim was circulated around so much it ended up being passed to the headteacher of their school.

She had been working as a gate guard at a building site in Hounslow, West London, checking deliveries as they arrived.

Barber would also check security passes for members of the public entering the construction site where 74 homes are being built for the local council, according to MailOnline.

Barber has not been seen at the site, which is near Heathrow Airport, since builders learned about her past and she was photographed at work.

One builder told MailOnline: “No one knew anything about her until she was photographed. Lots of people were talking about her, but we’ve not seen her since.”

She was released on licence after serving just over two years of her sentence as part of the Release of Temporary Licence (ROTL) scheme and would have been paid for the work.

Barber would have been subject to a risk assessment before she took up the post at the construction site.

News of the job move comes after Barber’s ex-husband, Daniel Barber, spoke of the deep emotional scars his ex-wife’s actions caused.

The experience saw him endure “the darkest darkest days” as he witnessed a public backlash.

Mr Barber eventually split up with his wife and has since found a new partner, Charlotte, who he met in June 2022.

Barber was charged with three counts of causing or inciting a child under 16 to engage in a sexual act; one count of sexual communication with a child; one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activities while in a position of trust, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act by a person in a position of trust.

She is likely to be released from prison next year after serving half of her sentence.
