Storm Nelson: Full list of UK towns and cities set to be battered by 70mph wind and rain

Brits are bracing for the arrival of Storm Nelson tonight, with hail, thunder and heavy rain predicted to wreak havoc. Storm Nelson was given its name by Spanish meteorologists, who have taken a particular interest in the storm as it is predicted to strike over southern Europe over the Easter weekend.

Temperatures will be sluggish across the UK, with the mercury not climbing above 12C in southern England and Wales, 7C in Scotland and 9C in northern England.

Met Office is warning that parts of the UK will also see strong winds of up to 70mph.

Meanwhile there’s a weather warning in place in Northern Ireland on March 27; the storm could bring in 2.8 inches of rain.

BBC meteorologist Helen Willetts told Radio 4: “The low pressure that’s throwing this rain our way has now been named as Storm Nelson by the Spanish met service.

“And it will bring some stronger winds our way as well later tonight and tomorrow.”

Holidaymakers hoping to bask in the southern mediterranean sun over Easter are likely to be left soggy and disappointed.

Temperatures in Madrid are only likely to reach 14C this weekend, with heavy rain expected. Meanwhile, Lisbon and Faro are only going to see the mercury hit 16C and 17C respectively.
