Storm Jocelyn live: UK weather chaos as commuters braced for day of travel misery

Brits could witness another day of travel chaos as Storm Jocelyn makes its mark in the UK with 76mph gusts. Forecasters have warned that the worst weather is yet to come as the UK continues to face a relentless onslaught of strong winds and heavy rain from Storm Jocelyn, resulting in significant travel disruptions for commuters.

Several flights have been cancelled and trains suspended as the storm is likely to be at its worst in the early hours of Wednesday. The strongest wind gusts of up to 80mph are expected by 7am.

Amber and yellow weather warnings for wind have been issued by the Met Office, encompassing a significant portion of the country. The storm’s focal point is shifting to the north of the UK.

Forecasters indicate that the most potent winds are projected to reach speeds of up to 80mph in exposed areas of northern and western Scotland. The Met Office has placed this region under an amber wind warning until 8am on Wednesday.

Despite being characterised as a downgrade compared to Storm Isha, which is still undergoing cleanup efforts, there is the potential for further impacts from Storm Jocelyn, as noted by the Met Office’s chief meteorologist, Steve Willington.

This follows the cancellation of eight flights at Dublin Airport and four at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday evening. Train services in Scotland were halted from 7pm, and motorists were advised to delay their journeys. Numerous individuals are experiencing power outages, and certain areas in York are grappling with flooding.

River flooding is also possible along parts of the upper River Severn in Shropshire until Friday. The Environment Agency has issued 17 flood warnings – where flooding is expected – and 101 flood alerts – where flooding is possible. Elsewhere, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has put out 14 flood alerts and 33 warnings and Natural Resources Wales has issued 10 alerts.

Storm Jocelyn made its presence felt shortly after the departure of Storm Isha, which tragically resulted in two fatalities and one person sustaining serious injuries on Monday.
