Storm Isha LIVE: Heavy rain and 80mph gusts to hammer UK as cancelled flights cause chaos

Britain is braced for weather chaos today as Storm Isha hammers into UK shores. The Met Office has issued several weather warnings for today and tomorrow, covering the entirety of Britain in what weather forecasters are calling a “rare” weather cycle.

Amber alerts are in place for wind, while yellow weather warnings have been issued for rain. Meanwhile the country’s largest airport, London Heathrow, has cancelled 14 flights including schedulled departures for Bologna, Berlin, Lisbon and Barcelona.

Gusts of up to 80mph are expected, while forecasters have warned that there is a “good chance” of power cuts may occur, with the chance of damage to buildings including tiles being blown from roofs. Travel chaos, including delays and cancellations to rail, air and ferry services is widely expected.

Road closures are likely, and a “danger to life” warning has been issued, particularly in seaside towns up and down the country with the Met Office warning of large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
