Storm Babet LIVE: Killer floods claim first victim as Brits braced for more chaos

A woman has died after being swept away as Storm Babet rages into its third day with fears it could reach its most dangerous point yet.

The storm has brought winds of up to 70mph in some parts of the UK, with more than a metre of rain leading to fears entire towns and villages will be cut off and left underwater.

It comes as Angus Council issued another plea for residents around Brechin to evacuate as some refused to leave their homes.

Residents of more than 400 properties in the area have already been told to evacuate after fears that the River South Esk could burst its banks.

Today, the storm is expected to barrel down the east of England before heading inland, with huge swathes of the country affected including Manchester, London, Portsmouth, Brighton and Norwich.
